Did you attend New Trier East, or New Trier West?

New Trier East

Comments:

Played baseball for a few years - but then had 2 spinal fusions. So then went back to Rollins College to complete my degree and on to Graduate school for an MBA and entered the workforce.

School Story:

So many stories - one in particular I’m not too proud of:

Bob Kenyon and I were partying harder and longer than we knew. We realized about 3 am we had a NTE day baseball game (batting practice at 10 am.
We realized we wouldn’t be sober enough by then, so we turned the hoses on and flooded the baseball field. All we wanted was a delayed start so we could sober up. And that’s what happened. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. I can’t remember who won.

Did you inhale?

Yes

What is your favorite memory of New Trier?

Sports teams and going down state for Illinois state basketball championship. We came in 2nd in state and a big parade for us.
Someone told me to speak for the team at the celebration. I was surprised and nervous and was incoherent. So I learned to be prepared when public speaking.

What is your LEAST favorite memory of NT?

Losing to New Trier West 21-0 in football game my senior year. coach Chicowski put the wrong offense in. He changed it after that loss to NTW.

After that humiliating loss, I told the basketball coach (Schneider) I am going to play running back (he originally talked me out of it cause he didn’t want me to get injured). I also asked Chicowski “I want to run the ball” and he said ok, and I was running back the rest of the season. Our team re-grouped with the new offense and we never lost another game.

Who was the most attractive girl in our class (other than yourself)?

Too many cute girls to pick one. Bobby Kenyon got all the cute ones anyway. But I found a nice one at NTW (Nan Weil). .

Who was the most attractive guy in our class (other than yourself)?

I’m a guy. I can’t judge men.

Did you learn anything at New Trier that later proved to be useful? If so, what?

Yes, I was a bully one time (and hated myself for it). I poured a beer over the head of a NTW guy who dated my girl friend. He should have punched me in the face - but he was wiser and more mature than I was and just walked away.

I tried to get hold of him years later to apologize but I couldn’t locate him.

Did any of your children attend New Trier?

No

Which of the following can be found in a dark corner of your closet?

none of the above

Did your father attend New Trier?

No

Did your mother attend New Trier?

No

What varsity sport(s) did you play at New Trier?

Baseball, basketball and football.

If you could go back and do high school all over, what would you do differently?

I would take school more seriously. And I would have lifted weights, and played running back the first game my senior year. Then I think we would have beaten NTW INSTEAD of losing to them 21-0 (humiliating).
That may sound a bit boastful and a sore loser. I’ll admit they were a good team so it would have been a tough game. But we had no chance with that dumb offense for our first game.
But I/we got revenge by beating NTW in basketball a few months later. Joe Donnelyn was very tough guy on NTW.

How do you describe yourself politically?

Libertarian

What are your vices?

none of the above

Do you believe in God?

Yes

At New Trier, I was labelled (rightly or wrongly):

A jock who inhaled

Unless you think it's none of anybody's goddam business, how would you describe your sexual orientation?

exclusively heterosexual

Are all kids who lived on the North Shore and went to New Trier spoiled whiny elitist brats who had everything handed to them on a silver platter? (Just asking.)

No, I was never whiny

Who decided that the Indians and the Cowboys should become . . . Trevians? Who decided that Echoes and Vestiges should become Trevia? Should that person (or persons) be severely punished?

No

Describe a moment of supreme happiness in your life that did NOT involve sex, drugs or rock and roll.

Playing for Illinois state basketball championship in 1973. We lost to a better team. But I didn’t play well which angers me to this day.

Are you still basically the same person you were in high school? If not, and you have changed, how have you changed? Have you changed for the better?

More goal oriented. And I try to be Kinder to others much more. But I’m not always successful at that.

HELLO MY NAME IS . . . Are you comfortable with the process of aging?

No, it totally sucks, and I will be wearing a big nametag at the Reunion

How did you choose your profession?

I had no choice, there was nothing else I wanted to do

Which Junior High did you attend?

Joseph Sears (Kenilworth)

What higher formal education have you completed?

MBA

In which Village did you reside at the time you graduated from New Trier?

Kenilworth

The best thing about growing up in the North Shore was . . .

Other Oliver Chapman threw a pie in my face at the cafeteria. I ran after him and learned that black men were faster than white guys.

My innermost circle of close friends at New Trier included, and I would often be seen in the company of . . .

The following classmates from New Trier East: Kenyon, Borre, Johnson, brother Tom, Guido.
